Magic Prague
"Men walk over dark bridges before the saints dimly lighted.
Clouds run over the gray sky before the
churches with dark bell towers."
Franz Kafka
With my pictures, I try to go beyond the touristic clichè of Prague as the “Golden City”. I seek the arcane substance, the ambiguities, numbness of
the Central European decadence, the hidden charm of Bohemia.
The glittering windows of its famous crystals, the McDonald's - expression of homogenizing modernity, contrast with old beer halls. If you look closely through the ceselled glass of the empty mugs, you'll see glimpses of elegant and wicked women in the shape of “liberty” statuettes. Gotic and Liberty. The Middle Ages and the “Belle Epoque”. They still look at each other, to remind us of a past of bloody religious wars, esoteric alchemy on one side and joy of life and passion for the arts on the other.
