SUSPENDED MEMORIES
Cities and countrysides, both in Italy and in Europe, often hide a heritage of extraordinary beauty and charm: abandoned places and factories, vestiges of industrial archaeology that tell of a time now distant, made of work, toil, lives lived and communities united around a single purpose.
Industrial archaeology is a discipline that studies the remains of industries and human work, revealing their historical, cultural and social value. In Italy, a country that often associates its identity with Renaissance and classical beauties, industrial archaeology offers a different look at the past.

1) Falck - The cathedral of work
The Falck steelworks has represented one of the faces of my city, Sesto San Giovanni, near Milan, by definition the working-class city of Italy. The factory, abandoned for decades, is in a state of decay and today it is no longer possible to enter. I photographed it twenty years ago, capturing workshops, machinery, rusty tools, exteriors covered in weeds. The ruins of Falck and the silence today contrast with the factory that for so many years was full of life, deafening noises and toil.
2) Ancient farmhouse “Cascina Trivulza”
Located in Melzo, near Milan, this farmhouse
dates back to the 17th century.
In the near future it will be recovered as a public
cultural space.
